Why is it more socially acceptable for girls to display masculine traits rather than boys displaying feminine traits? Gender is construct and it needs to be teared apart!Theirs a discrimination between male nonconformity and female nonconformity, and why one is more wrongful and diminishing than the other. Males portraying feminine traits are viewed as less than a female displaying masculine traits. There are many reasons that tie together with social norms and how our society is to blame on gender inequality. Females are seen as less than a male so a male having female traits is seeing as lower in social status. As female traits are seeing as less and male traits are strong and masculine when showing so they reflect what they are considered by society.

Female Traits:

  • Emotional
  • Vulnerable
  • Delicate
  • Caring
  • Weak

Male Traits:

  • Strong
  • Independent
  • Brave

Gender role norms are powerfully taught to individuals and failing to conform them lead to negativity. Although both genders are punished and diminished when transgressing to the opposite gender, males are more hardly punished than females.

Gender norms also affect young children at an early age, even if they are not being taught they observe from society, toys, and roles. By a young age they know what ‘roles’ a male and female should take on.

Even by one parent doing their part, it isn't enough we need to break this “norm” and stop telling individuals how they should act, be and like. We need to accept every individual as they are, feminine and masculine traits should be associated with characters not genders.
